NEW YORK — Right winger David Pasternak scored the go-ahead goal late in the second period Friday night and center Ryan Spooner was credited with an insurance goal shortly before the midway point of the third as the Boston Bruins remained unbeaten on the road with a 5-3 win over the New York Islanders at the Barclays Center.

Right winger Brett Connolly scored in the first period and center Joonas Kemppainen collected the tying goal in the second for the Bruins (3-3-1), who have won three of four overall. Boston is 3-0-0 on the road.

In the third period, Spooner took a pass from Kemppainen and tried passing it across the crease, but the puck ticked off the skates of defenseman Marek Zidlicky and into the net at 8:09.

Center David Krejci scored an empty-netter with 2:25 left.

Goalie Jonas Gustavsson made 23 saves for the Bruins.

Left winger Josh Bailey and center Casey Cizikas scored in the first period and defenseman Thomas Hickey added a goal with 1:53 remaining in the third for the Islanders (4-2-1), who had a four-game winning streak snapped.

Goalie Jaroslav Halak made 21 saves but allowed more goals than he did in his first two starts combined (three) as the Islanders suffered their first regulation loss at the Barclays Center.

The Bruins scored first during an entertaining first period. Center Brad Marchand, stationed behind the net, dumped the puck into the slot. Islanders’ John Tavares and Anders Lee both had their backs to the puck as Connolly swooped in and fired a shot past Halak at 9:51.

The Islanders tied and took the lead in a span of 79 seconds late in the period. New York was on the power play when Tavares’ shot bounced to Bailey, who threaded the puck through sliding defenseman Kevan Miller and Gustavsson with 5:52 left.

Cizikas was credited with the go-ahead goal when a shot by defenseman Johnny Boychuk tipped off his skate as he jostled for positioning in front of the net with Spooner.

The Bruins tied the score at 2 in the second period thanks to Spooner, who picked off the puck near the blue line and fired a shot that was blocked by Islanders defenseman Travis Hamonic. But the puck caromed to Kemppainen, who buried the rebound for his first NHL goal with 3:47 remaining.

Pasternak put the Bruins ahead 3-2 with 1:44 left in the second period when a shot by left winger Loui Eriksson skittered into the slot. The puck ticked off Pasternak’s skate, but he controlled it as he turned around and fired a shot through two Islanders defensemen and past Halak.

Canadiens 7, Sabres 2

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Right wingers Brendan Gallagher and Dale Weise scored twice to lead the Montreal Canadiens to a 7-2 win over the Buffalo Sabres on Friday night.

Center Torrey Mitchell, left winger Max Pacioretty and defenseman Andrei Markov also scored for the Canadiens, who improved to 8-0. Goalie Mike Condon made 33 saves.

Left winger Matt Moulson and center Ryan O’Reilly scored for the Sabres (2-5). Goalie Chad Johnson made 19 saves.

Weise opened the scoring with 5:25 remaining in the first period on a flawless two-on-one rush with P.K. Subban. After a quick pass from Weise to Subban, the defenseman returned the favor and Weise had an open net for his second goal of the season.

Gallagher made it 2-0 just 45 seconds into the second period. After his initial backhand attempt was stopped, he jammed the puck inside the post for his second goal of the year.

Moulson got the Sabres on the board four minutes later after a terrific setup by center Sam Reinhart. Skating to the right of the Montreal net, Reinhart found Moulson in the left circle with a no-look, backhand pass. Moulson then blasted a one-timer for his second goal of the season.

O’Reilly evened the score with a power-play strike 11:04 into the second period. Seconds after Montreal left winger Tomas Fleischmann was sent to the box for interference, O’Reilly scored on a powerful one-timer from the right circle.

Montreal quickly got its lead back thanks to former Sabre Torrey Mitchell, who redirected Subban’s shot from the point with 6:29 left in the second period to put Montreal up 3-2.

Markov restored Montreal’s two-goal lead with a quick power-play goal with 1:38 left in the second period. With Buffalo center Tyler Ennis off because of a roughing penalty, Markov beat Johnson with a long shot from the point to make it 4-2.
