BANGOR, Maine — A Belfast man is facing a drunken driving charge after leading Bangor police on a short pursuit Thursday evening, Sgt. Tim Cotton said.

James Cook, 21, had been traveling north on Finson Road when police attempted to stop him around 10:45 p.m.

Cotton said Cook took off at a high rate of speed when police turned on their emergency lights.

A short time later, Cook lost control of his Jeep in the area of Pray’s Trailer Park. He was carrying three passengers, Cotton said.

Cook has been charged with operating under the influence, eluding an officer, criminal speeding, operating after suspension and violation of bail, the sergeant said. He was treated for injuries at Eastern Maine Medical Center, as were his passengers, whose names were not disclosed.

The crash remains under investigation.
