HOLDEN, Maine — Residents of the RSU 63 member towns of Holden, Eddington and Clifton will have an opportunity to learn more about the condition of their schools during a special presentation at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Eddington Elementary School.

The school board contracted with Oak Point Associates last fall to conduct a two-phase evaluation of the educational facilities in the district, Rusty Gagnon, deputy chairwoman, said in a news release.

The first phase involved an evaluation of the school unit’s buildings, namely Eddington Elementary School, Holden Elementary School and Holbrook Middle School. The three schools house the district’s prekindergarten through eighth-grade students. Grade nine through 12 students are tuitioned to the area high school of their choice.

Thursday’s presentation by Oak Point Associates is the result of the completed first phase work, Gagnon said. The presentation, which will include time for questions and answers from members of the school board and public, is expected to last one hour.

The presentation will include a summary; a facility analysis that addresses architectural, structural, mechanical and electrical systems; fire protection and safety; and appendices incorporating photographs, drawings and a cost estimate for recommendations excluding work outside the buildings’ grounds, parking, transportation system and utility work.

During the second phase of the contracted work, which is now under way, Oak Point will evaluate the educational adequacy of the three buildings and develop a proposed master plan to meet the district’s long-term educational needs.

The work being conducted will be essential components as the school unit considers creating a new, one-school district, Gagnon said.
