The Cross Insurance Center’s tease of a huge act set to play this June has readers’ imaginations running. It’s caused a lot of buzz at the Bangor Daily News, too.

We don’t know any better than you do, but we have our theories based on the four clues:
Rock legend. Never played Bangor before. Will appeal to “most adult-age demographics.” Grammy Award winner and a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee.
We’ll get to our theories in a minute. Here are some of yours.
First, some that might skew too young in their fan bases given the hint that the act would appeal to “most adult-age demographics”:
Green Day, Kid Rock, Pearl Jam, N.W.A.
A few we had to disqualify because they’ve played Bangor in the past:
Aerosmith, Bob Dylan, Bob Seger, James Taylor, Sting
We hoped for Neil Young, but he’s booked through June in Europe.
Several suggestions seemed too big for little Bangor, but you never know:
Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen, Elton John, Paul McCartney, The Who
For us, that leaves:
Paul Simon, Santana, Jackson Browne, Van Morrison or Rod Stewart (Emily Burnham’s top guesses)
Robert Plant, David Gilmour, Ozzy Osborne, Gregg Allman, Sting, Peter Gabriel.
McCartney may be too big, but isn’t Ringo Starr technically a rock legend? Would Prince play Bangor?

Edit: BDN blogger Patricia Callahan pointed out a big one I forgot: Tom Petty! Edit: We’re told he played Bangor in the 70s.
