GORHAM — The University of Southern Maine baseball team and coaching staff, led by veteran head coach Ed Flaherty, will hold its 26th annual Winter Clinic in February and March. Sessions will be held 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 28; and the Huskies Advanced Clinic will be held 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, March 5, both at Costello Sports Complex Field House on the Gorham Campus. SOUTHWEST HARBOR — Registration is open for the 24th annual Great Harbor Shoot-Out postseason basketball tournament, which benefits Harbor House Community Service Center in Southwest Harbor. The tournament for junior high and high school students March 18-20, at gymnasiums on Mount Desert Island, Trenton and Ellsworth. CARRABASSETT VALLEY — Sugarloaf is preparing to host the second annual Sugarloaf Fat Tire Festival, Feb. 6-7. The event will be organized in collaboration with the Carrabassett Region New England Mountain Bike Association and Maine Huts & Trails. SLED DOG RACES

GREENVILLE — The 10th annual Plum Creek Wilderness Sled Dog Race, place 8:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 6, over 70 miles of forested mountain trails. The Wilderness Race will begin and end at Leisure Life Resort on Lily Bay Road. A 30-mile race also will be held. The race purse has been raised to $10,000. The race trail traverses the mountainous 100-mile wilderness area, and passes through several remote sporting camps such as Appalachian Mountain Club’s Little Lyford Camps and West Branch Pond Camps, where there will be vantage points for the public to watch the racers pass through. SIDNEY — Maine Pond Hockey Classic, Feb. 12-14, at Snow Pond Center for the Arts on Snow Pond (Messalonskee Lake). The site will contain six or more rinks, beer garden, fire pits and food vendors. It will offer seven divisions for players of different ages and ability levels. The Maine Pond Hockey Classic is an annual fundraising tournament supporting the Boys and Girls Clubs and YMCA of Greater Waterville. Registration is underway. MUD RUN

WATERVILLE, Maine — Registration is open for Thomas College’s second annual Dirty Dog Mud Run, which will take place on April 17 on the campus. With 5K of mud, tire flips, wall climbing, cargo net climbing, and more mud, this event should prove to be fun for all with the focus on finishing. The run starts at 9 a.m. A kids’ obstacle course will take place at 11 a.m. Registration is $15 for alumni, $5 for children and $30 for community members until Feb. 1, then it will be $40. ORONO — The second annual Black Bear Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K will take place on June 5, on the University of Maine Campus. Starts in the UMaine Football stadium track and a run through the campus, along the river and through Orono and Old Town. You will pass the Old Town Canoe Company and return to campus via a paved bike path through the woods.The course will feature cheer stations, music and lots of water stops. WATERVILLE — Maine Softball Coaches Association will offer a coaches clinic 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, at Alfond Center, Thomas College. Instructors will include Kaitlin Cochran, Lisa-Ann Wallace, Terry Parlin, Ryan Sullivan and Nick Caiazzo, who will teach hitting, baserunning, bunting, vision training, catching mechanics and drills, pitching, and organizing drills.
