An apparent methamphetamine lab was found Wednesday on Pine Street in Bangor, according to police.

Several residents of an apartment building at 149 Pine St. were evacuated, and two men were taken into custody. The alleged drug lab was inside one of the apartments and was cleaned by the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency’s lab team.

Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety, noted this was the 10th methamphetamine lab found by police this year.

Maine police found 56 meth labs in 2015, the most of any single year in state history. The presence of methamphetamine production in Maine has been increasing steadily since 2011, despite efforts as early as 2004 to prevent it.
