BANGOR, Maine — An apparent methamphetamine lab was found Wednesday on Pine Street, according to police.

Several residents of an apartment building at 149 Pine St. were evacuated, and two men, Brian Hovey, 33, and Thomas Beaudoin, 27, both of Bangor, were taken into custody by Bangor police on probation violation charges, according to Maine State Police spokesman Stephen McCausland.

The men have not been charged in connection with the suspected meth lab, he said.

The lab was discovered when officers went to the apartment to check on the two men’s bail restrictions, McCausland.

It was the the 10th methamphetamine lab found by police this year, McCausland said.

Maine police found 56 meth labs in 2015, the most of any single year in state history. The presence of methamphetamine production in Maine has been increasing steadily since 2011, despite efforts as early as 2004 to prevent it.
