PORTLAND, Maine — Families from Mattawamkeag, Waterboro and Waterville were among those who welcomed Leap Day babies on Monday.
Andrew and Ashley Frodahl of Mattawamkeag gave birth to their third son, Finn Jakub, at 8:46 a.m. at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.
Ashley Frodahl said Monday that Finn, who entered the world at 8 pounds, 11 ounces, joins older brothers Axel, who is 5, and Hans, who is 22 months old.
Finn was not due until March 7, but the Mattawamkeag mom was pleased about Monday’s turn of events.
“We’re so excited about how he does have a Leap Year birthday,” she said in a brief phone interview. She said that she and her husband aren’t yet sure how they’ll handle birthday celebrations, given Feb. 29 occurs only every four years.
“Every year is special, but it’ll just be even cooler to do something special for leap years,” she said.
A family from North Waterboro welcomed a Leap Day baby on Monday at Maine Medical Center, the hospital reported in a statement.
Addyson Jipson, daughter of Troy and Jennifer, weighed in at 8 pounds, 12 ounces, according to the statement.
The family, which also includes 6-year-old Gavin, is making the most of the celebration since the next Leap Day isn’t until 2020.
Also born on Leap Day was Jackson Gilley, centralmaine.com reported Monday. The baby boy was born to Brandon and Kristen Gilley of Waterville. He was born at 12:31 a.m. at MaineGeneral Medical Center’s Alfond Center for Health in Augusta.
