HAMPDEN, Maine — The Hampden Police Department on Thursday released surveillance system images in an effort to find the person responsible for an overnight burglary at JC’s Variety Store on Western Avenue.

The break-in occurred about 1:30 a.m., police said in a Facebook post.

While police did not indicate what was taken, John Lanpher, who owns the store along with his wife, Corinne, said that the door was kicked in, causing extensive damage, and that an estimated $2,000 worth of cigarettes and about $18 in cash were missing.

Anyone with information about the person or vehicle shown in the images or who has information about the incident is asked to call Hampden police at 862-4000.
