HOLDEN, Maine — Holden police arrested a local man on assault and other charges after a disturbance Tuesday night at a Main Road apartment building.

The episode that led to the arrest of Anthony Barone, 25, of Holden began when police were called to a disorderly conduct complaint at 18 Main Road, Holden police Sgt. Eugene Fizell said Wednesday.

Several people had called the Penobscot Regional Communications Center to report that a male tenant had assaulted a couple of other tenants, smashed the window from his apartment door, and then was on top of one of the tenant’s cars, Fizell said.

When Fizell arrived, he was met by Barone, who charged at him as he got out of his cruiser, yelling threats, swinging his bloodied fists and striking the sergeant in the arms and chest.

Fizell said he was able to subdue Barone, arrest him and handcuffed him to stop him from his hitting and kicking until backup arrived from Cpl. Amy Nickerson, Cpl. Bo Willey and Officer Scott Jones, all of the Brewer Police Department, and Penobscot County Sheriff’s deputies Steve Boyd and Sean McCue.

Barone then was secured with handcuffs and leg shackles.

Once secured, Barone was examined by emergency medical personnel from Holden and Capital Ambulance, who bandaged cuts Barone suffered when he smashed an apartment window with his elbow and when he reportedly fell during an altercation that occurred before police arrived.

Barone then was taken to Penobscot County Jail, where he is being held without bail.

At the time of his arrest Tuesday night, Barone was out on bail from three previous court cases. Two of his bail conditions are that he not commit a criminal offense and that he not possess or consume alcoholic beverages.

“It was noted that Barone showed signs of being very intoxicated,” Fizell said.

None of the officers were injured.

Barone is charged with felony assault, disorderly conduct and two counts of violating conditions of release, Fizell said.
