BANGOR, Maine — The Airbus A380 that touched down at Bangor International Airport on Sunday was the first of its kind to land here, but it was just the latest of many diverted flights to make a surprise stop in the Queen City. Over the years, Bangor has gained a reputation as “the place where diverted flights go,” as a 2012 Associated Press story put it. Due to its location in the far northeast of the U.S., Bangor International Airport has often been the first place to stop for flights dealing with terror threats or unruly passengers. Here’s a few of our past stories on diverted flights or unusual planes ending up in Bangor:
