NAPLES, Maine — A community is grieving after a beloved middle school teacher was killed in a car crash Wednesday afternoon in Casco.

Investigators say 29-year-old Adam Perron of Harrison was killed in the crash.

MSAD 61’s superintendent says this was Perron’s first year teaching at Lake Region Middle School. He says the death of the beloved seventh- and eighth-grade science teacher is horrific.

Superintendent Al Smith says for the past several years before Perron became a teacher at MSAD 61, he worked with middle school kids, teaching them about the environment as a member of the Lakes Environmental Association.

Smith says investigators called him Wednesday afternoon, saying Perron died after a commercial truck swerved into his car on Route 302 in Casco. The other driver, 31-year-old Joshua McNally, was flown to Maine Medical Center with serious injuries.

The superintendent says officials told him Perron was on his way to the school to feed pets he kept in his classroom. Students are on vacation this week.

Administrators are working to make sure everyone who is grieving can get the help they need.

Smith says his staff is struggling and it’s important for the community to come together.

“Life is never simple and it’ll take time, and a lot of support, but we’ll be OK,” Smith said.

Smith says Perron leaves behind a wife and a young child.

The school district is encouraging anyone that’s having a tough time dealing with this loss to reach out and talk to someone.
