TOWNSHIP 24 MD, Maine — Forest rangers were working to control a wildfire that burned about 11 acres Wednesday just east of Pretty Pond in Washington County.

Regional Forest Ranger Jeff Currier said mid-afternoon that several Maine Forest Service rangers and a helicopter were working to control the fire, which was reported at about 12:30 p.m. in Township 24 MD, along Shagadee Road.

“It is burning pretty aggressively in overgrown blueberry brush and white pine,” Currier said.

As of 2:40 p.m., the fire was 95 percent contained, and rangers were working to prevent it from jumping a stream, he said.

Rangers do not yet know the cause of the fire.
