BUCKSPORT, Maine — A Massachusetts man has been arrested after he allegedly demanded cash from a convenience store clerk Sunday night.

Adam Scott Kasevich Jr., 25, of Boston was arrested Monday afternoon on a Class B robbery charge, according to officials. A conviction for Class B crime in Maine carries a maximum possible sentence of 10 years in prison and a fine of $20,000.

According to Sgt. David Winchester of the Bucksport Police Department, the robbery occurred around 9:30 p.m. Sunday at the Circle K store on Main Street.

At the time, Bucksport police indicated on the department’s Facebook page that a man dressed entirely in black entered the store and demanded cash from a clerk before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of money. The robber and a passenger in the vehicle he arrived in were last seen heading east on Route 1 in a reddish-colored four-door sedan, police said.

Winchester said Tuesday that social media played a significant role in identifying the vehicle and the alleged robber. After police received multiple leads, Kasevich was tracked down in the Belfast area, where, with the help of Waldo County Sheriff’s Department and Belfast police, he was taken into custody and charged late Monday afternoon, Winchester said.

“We got a tremendous response on social media,” Winchester said.

He added that police do not plan to file any charges against the man who was in the vehicle with Kasevich.

Winchester said that no weapon was displayed during the robbery. He declined to identify the amount of money that Kasevich is accused of taking from the store, but said “a portion” of it was recovered when Kasevich was arrested.

According to Winchester, members of the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department and Maine State Police assisted in the response to the robbery scene Sunday evening.

He said Kasevich is due to appear in court on the robbery charge on June 21. In the meantime, Kasevich is expected to be held without bail at the Hancock County Jail in Ellsworth, he added.
