LIVERMORE, Maine — A South Road home was destroyed Friday by a fast-moving blaze of undetermined origin, according to Fire Chief Donald Castonguay.
No one was injured, and pets escaped the blaze safely, he said Saturday.
Fire crews were called to the home of Dale Boothby around 2:45 p.m, the chief said.
“It was fully involved when we arrived,” Castonguay said. “Fire was coming out of everywhere.”
The chief said the metal roof on the 40-by-40-foot home kept the fire inside the house and caused flames to leap out the sides.
Boothby was working in the garden when he smelled smoke, Castonguay said. When the homeowner turned around, he saw his house was on fire.
The home had been in the Boothby family for generations, the fire chief said.
The state fire marshal’s office was unable to determine a cause because of the extensive damage, according to Castonguay.
