LINCOLN, Maine — A local man with a pending domestic violence assault charge was arrested on Sunday in an incident initially reported as a large fight in a Main Street parking lot, police said Tuesday.

John Trott, 38, of Lincoln was again charged with domestic violence assault. A woman, his girlfriend and alleged victim in both incidents, was allegedly shoved during the incident.

The woman, Valerie Hodgdon, 32, of Lincoln, was charged Sunday with violation of a protection order after Trott complained to police of her trying to contact him on May 16, police said.

Trott was arrested after Lincoln police officers Josh McKechnie and Andrew Scelso were called to a large fight in the Steaks N’ Stuff Market and Deli lot at about 9:40 p.m. in which a woman suffered an injured wrist.

When the officers arrived they saw several people in the parking lot and Hodgdon, who had blood on her arm, said Detective Mark Fucile, police spokesman.

Questioning of witnesses revealed that Trott, who appeared to be intoxicated, had shoved Hodgdon after getting into a dispute with another man at an apartment building at 39 Main St. in which the man was punched several times. The man declined to press charges, Fucile said.

Trott appeared in Lincoln District Court on Friday and dropped the protection order barring Hodgdon from having contact with him. Hodgdon was nevertheless charged on Sunday with violating the protection order on her because Trott’s complaint of May 16 predated the withdrawal, Fucile said.

Trott has a domestic violence assault charge pending against him for an incident that occurred on March 20 in which he allegedly struck Hodgdon, Fucile said.

Trott is being held without bail at Penobscot County Jail, officials said. He is due in Lincoln District Court on July 5, as is the woman on the alleged protection order violation, Fucile said.
