PERRY, Maine — A bomb threat made at the local elementary school Wednesday morning turned out to be a false alarm, according to a school official.

The threat was made around 9 a.m. in the form of an automated phone call to the school, Principal Daniel Morang said early Wednesday afternoon. He said the school was evacuated and area police and fire department personnel were contacted.

“We followed our critical incident response plan,” Morang said.

Members of the Perry Fire Department, Washington County Sheriff’s Office and police departments in Pleasant Point and Eastport arrived to conduct a sweep of the building for an explosive device, the principal said, but none was found. The process took a few hours to complete.

Students were sent home for the day after the threat was made, Morang said. A makeup day for the missed day of school will be scheduled, he said.

Perry Elementary School has more than 125 students enrolled in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade, according to Morang.
