HERMON, Maine — A vacant house on Union Street was destroyed by a fire Thursday night, according to the town’s assistant fire chief.
Firefighters from multiple communities were dispatched to 2665 Union St. shortly before midnight, according to Hermon Assistant Fire Chief Eric Pelletier.
Pelletier said the home had no electricity to it.
Crews arrived to find the structure, which has a garage attached to it, about three-quarters engulfed in flames. Pelletier said the fire is believed to have started in the garage area.
A cause has not been determined, and the state fire marshal’s office is investigating. Pelletier said he does not believe foul play was involved.
Crews from Levant, Bangor, Carmel, Glenburn, Stetson and Hermon had the fire under control in about a half-hour. A tanker truck from the Air Guard also responded to the scene.
