Chaz “Charlie” Pal, a former all-star in the Acadian Little League, has been selected in the 38th round of the Major League Baseball draft by the Houston Astros.

Pal, a 6-foot senior outfielder, was taken by the Astros after two standout seasons at South Carolina Aiken University, an NCAA Division II school.

In two seasons, he compiled a .336 batting average, a .583 slugging percentage and had 110 RBIs while earning a second-team all-conference honor in the Peach Belt Conference.

Pal, who resided in Surry, went on to attend Pompano Beach High School in Florida.
