BREWER, Maine — A 78-year-old man missing since Thursday is believed to have left Greater Bangor, according to local police.

“We actually have new information that suggests it is possible he left the area,” Brewer Public Safety Director Jason Moffitt said Friday night in an email. “We can safely say that we no longer believe he is in the woods.”

Gordon Brewster was last seen heading toward Tim Horton’s around 8:50 a.m. Thursday, according to the Maine Warden Service.

The initial search focused on wooded areas in Brewer.

Moffitt did not specify in his email what information police learned that led them to believe Brewster left the area, but a Bangor television station reported Friday that the search was focused on local bus stations.

Brewster is 5 feet 8 inches tall, has gray hair and a slender build. He may be wearing a long black overcoat, khaki pants and a white button-down shirt.

Brewster may be confused and may not know where he is, according to the warden service.

Anyone with information about Brewster’s whereabouts is urged to contact Brewer police at 989-7001.
