PORTLAND, Maine — Federal regulators have issued a recall for about 6,700 children’s water bottles sold only at L.L. Bean and imported from China by GSI Outdoors because of concern about the lead content of an exterior part of the bottle.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission on Tuesday issued the recall for the line of 13.5 ounce insulated water bottles with five different graphic designs: Dino Bones, Flower Power, Orange Grid camo, Purple Tye Dye Butterfly and Robo Shark.

The commission said lead solder used at the exterior base of the bottle has high levels of lead, which can be toxic if ingested, especially by young children.

The bottles were sold from July 2015 through May 2016 at L.L. Bean retail stores, online and through its catalogue, regulators said, at a price of about $20.

Federal regulators recommended consumers stop using the recalled water bottles and contact L.L. Bean for a full refund.

In addition to visiting a retail store, regulators said customers can call 800-555-9717 from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Eastern time daily or visit llbean.com and click on “Recall & Safety Info” for more information.

The consumer notice said the item identification number 297684 is printed on a sticker on the bottom of the bottle. Also printed on the sticker are “PO#844” and “BB2D2-LLB-R45-0413.”
