BREWER, Maine — When Blank Canvas Brewery opened last year on Center Street the owners were optimistic that they would see traffic on the one-way street.

“No one drove down that street,” Stephen Genthner said Friday from behind his new counter at 46 Betton St., which is almost directly behind his former location but on a busier two-way street with a partial view of the Penobscot River.

Genthner and his wife, Jessica Wentworth, started the taproom a year ago in a 1,500-square-foot building that had their half-barrel brewery separated with a repurposed dog fence.

Their new space is much bigger and it has a different layout, with the brewery in a separate room that has a fence door so people still can see the operation and a back room that has a pingpong table and game table with checkers and other board games.

On tap on Friday were Sidamo Brown, Maine Made Pale, Rhubarb Kolsch, Maybock and newcomer, Roasted Garlic.

“We’re really happy you reopened,” Alison Keane, owner of nearby Logical Sip Cafe & Bakery, said Friday as she picked up a “flight” she ordered that had a sample of each of the five beers.

The brewery is open weekly 4-9 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.
