BANGOR, Maine — An apartment unit on Walter Street was significantly damaged by fire on Thursday morning, according to officials.
Maintenance of the multi-unit building reported the fire, according to Bangor Assistant Fire Chief Darrell Cyr, and upon crews arriving, fire was discovered in the kitchen of a two-bedroom unit.
Crews knocked down the fire relatively quickly, according to Cyr. Nobody was home at the time of the fire, and no other units were affected.
Firefighters did locate a cat in the building that they then gave oxygen to. Cyr said the cat is doing OK.
The assistant chief said an electrical stove malfunction is the likely cause of the fire, and no foul play is suspected.
