JOHNSON MOUNTAIN TOWNSHIP, Maine — A Jackman man suffered serious head injuries late Saturday when the car he was driving struck a moose, according to the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office.
John Coyle, 31, was driving alone north on Route 201 when his 2005 Subaru Legacy struck a moose about 9:55 p.m., Cpl. Ritchie Putnam said Monday.
He was taken by LifeFlight to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, where he was listed as being in critical condition Monday morning.
The animal landed on the hood and roof of the car, Putnam said.
Coyle and family members, who were following him is separate vehicles, were returning to Jackman from the Skowhegan State Fair, according to Putnam. Family members came upon the crash and called 911.
The Subaru was destroyed, according to Putnam.
