SCARBOROUGH, Maine — Fire badly damages a home, spreads to a garage and kills a pet in Scarborough.
It happened on 41 Beech Ridge Road around 9:30 a.m. Sunday morning.
Firefighters say a dog in the home alerted a woman to the fire, which she found in the bedroom.
The woman and her dog escaped, but a cat died.
Firefighters had to call in Central Maine Power as well.
“There actually was a power line that burnt off from the structure so we had CMP come in and secure that and make it safe,”said Chief Michael Thurlow with the Scarborough Fire Department.
Chief Thurlow says the breeze and heat made fighting the fire more difficult.
A cause is still being investigated.
