BANGOR, Maine — A Swanville man pleaded guilty to unlawfully possessing four firearms during a hearing Tuesday in U.S. District Court.

According to court records and evidence cited during a trial in April 2013, two Waldo County Sheriff’s deputies went to the home of 50-year-old John T. Hines to investigate a neighbor’s complaint of hearing gunfire coming from the property and found Hines in possession of a loaded .357 Ruger revolver, two rifles and a shotgun.

Hines, however, was prohibited under federal law from possessing any firearms because he had previously been convicted of domestic violence assault, a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence, according to the U.S. attorney’s office.

Hines faces up to 10 years in prison, three years of supervised release and a fine up up to $250,000. He will be sentenced after the completion of a presentence investigation report by the U.S. Probation Office.

The investigation that led to the guilty plea was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office.
