AUGUSTA, Maine — Maine State Police said Wednesday that a 16-month-old who died at a Raymond day care center Tuesday was there in foster care.

An autopsy has been performed on Travis Weston but the cause of death awaits further testing, Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Department of Public Safety said Wednesday in a statement.

Autopsies are performed on all children who die under the age of 3, he said.

The boy was placed at the Peek-A-Roo Day Care Center, owned by Teresa and Kent Sadak, on March 2, McCausland said.

“The boy had been ill for several weeks with ear infections and was on medication,” he said. “Travis was placed in a crib late Tuesday morning for a nap and was found unresponsive about 2:30 p.m. Attempts to revive the child by family members were unsuccessful.”

The Sadaks have been fully cooperative with investigators, according to McCausland.
