A possible microburst, isolated to just a few streets, is likely to blame for recent damage to trees and buildings in Kingfield, according to the National Weather Service.
It’s a cleanup that may take days, after a storm that took only minutes.
Will Zejak and his family had more than a dozen trees fall from the storm.
Many were hundreds of years old, breaking fences and blocking their driveway.
“Once they went down you couldn’t see anything,” Zejak said. “You couldn’t get in or out.”
The family said most of the trees that were torn down from this storm were extremely healthy, but they say the winds were so strong and so fast that it pulled up the entire roof system.
Kim Jordan said they were inside her family’s hardware store, when the roof of one of their buildings was ripped right off as well.
The National Weather Service said they believe the damage was caused by straight line winds.
“It was actually pretty scary for about 10 minutes there, because you could see that it was just targeted right in this area,” Jordan said.
