A pedestrian struck by a box truck Tuesday in Skowhegan has died of his injuries, according to the Waterville Morning Sentinel.
Charles Atwood, 84, was crossing U.S. Route 201 to get his newspaper when the truck struck him just before 6 a.m. Tuesday. He was airlifted to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor but was later pronounced dead.
The box truck driver, Michael Kelley, 67, of Clinton, swerved in an effort to avoid Atwood but struck an oncoming Chevrolet Aveo sedan driven by Aaron Norton, 36, of Madison. The crash happened near the Sappi paper mill.
Norton suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where he was still listed in critical condition as of Wednesday, according to the paper. Kelley suffered lesser injuries and was treated and released Tuesday.
