The Maine Principals’ Association is now offering an online service for purchasing tickets to championship sporting events it sponsors, beginning with this weekend’s high school volleyball and field hockey state title matches.
Fans may still purchase their tickets at the gate for each event, but the collaboration with the GoFan ticket service is seen as a way to provide greater access to tickets in advance.
“We keep hearing that everybody does everything with their phones these days and don’t like to stand in line to buy tickets, so we were looking for a convenience aspect for people who would prefer to do it this way ahead of time,” said MPA Executive Director Dick Durost.
Fans interested in purchasing tickets online may access the MPA’s home page at www.mpa.cc and then look to the right of the page to find the GoFan logo, or go to the GoFan page directly at https://gofan.co/app/school/MPA.
Fans may purchase tickets online for the 2017 state volleyball, field hockey, soccer and football state championship games, then present their tickets at the gate through their mobile phones.
Ticket prices for MPA-sponsored games remain the same: $8 for adults, $5 for students and seniors. There is a service charge for each ticket, $1.40 per adult ticket and $1.25 per student or senior ticket.
“That’s true if you buy tickets through Ticketmaster for concerts or anything else,” said Durost of the service charge. “That’s just part of the process and the business, but if people want the convenience of buying their tickets ahead of time, this now becomes an option for them.”
The tickets purchased through GoFan are general admission and not seat-specific, Durost said.
Online ticketing procedures for winter sports championships still are being worked out, according to MPA Assistant Executive Director Mike Burnham.
“The best thing from our perspective is that now it’s simply one more option,” Durost added. “People obviously can still just go to the event and purchase their tickets, but now if this is more convenient for them they can purchase their tickets this way.”
