OTISFIELD — A fire seen from miles away destroyed a home and barn in Otisfield Friday night.

Otisfield Fire Chief Kyle Jordan said the fire was reported before 7:30 p.m. Friday, but the barn was engulfed in flames and had spread to the home by the time firefighters arrived.

Three people were home at the time and escaped unharmed. The home dates back to the 1800s.

The fire prompted a strong response, with around 70 firefighters from nearly a dozen towns responding.

Jordan said his crews stayed past 2 a.m. Sunday morning.

The fire does not appear to be suspicious. The state fire marshal’s office will investigate on scene to help determine the cause on Monday.
