South Portland police, who earlier on Saturday asked for the public’s help in locating a local man last seen Tuesday, said he was found dead late in the day Saturday.

The police discontinued a Silver Alert after Carlos Ordonez, 69, was found dead along the banks of the Fore River in South Portland.

A man walking his dog in woods near the river found his body at about 5 p.m.

Police said Ordonez had shot himself.
