The 15th annual Animal Planet “Puppy Bowl” will take place on Sunday, and Mainers have one pup in particular to root for.
“Flora is making her debut on the big field on Sunday,” Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland Community Engagement Director Jeana Roth said. “This is the second year in a row we have a puppy starring in the Puppy Bowl. Last year was the first Maine puppy to ever be included.”
Roth said that the Puppy Bowl promotes shelters like the Animal Refuge League.
“All the puppies featured in the Puppy Bowl are from rescue shelters from across the country, so it’s a great platform to advocate what we’re doing here each and every day,” Roth said.
She said they also help promote partnerships between shelters.
“Flora came to us from a partner rescue Georgia. Last year’s contestant was a Georgia one, too, so it’s another cool spotlight on the collaborations we do with shelters across the country,” Roth said.
The game will take place at 3 p.m. Sunday, and Roth said anyone interested in supporting Flora can meet with shelter staff in Portland.
“We’re having a party to celebrate Flora in the Puppy Bowl at Little Tap House, so anybody watching, anybody who’s a fan of what we do, can come celebrate with us,” Roth said.
Flora found her forever home late last year, but shelter staff said there are plenty of other dogs available at their Westbrook location.
