Passengers wait to board their flights at Portland International Jetport in this 2013.

This summer United Airlines will start offering seasonal weekend flights from Portland to Denver.

The Portland International Jetport announced Monday that travelers can catch Saturday and Sunday flights on United Airlines to and from Denver, starting June 8. The seasonal service will run through Labor Day.

“We are thrilled to see United Airlines make this investment into Portland” said Paul Bradbury, Portland International Jetport director. “We have been working with United to engage the Denver market and to increase our east-west connectivity. Given the strength of United’s hub in Denver and the connection opportunities that exist, today’s announcement does just that. We are grateful United chose to make getting to Maine much more flyer friendly.”

Steve Jaquith, United’s vice president of the Colorado hub, said the service to Denver will let travelers out of Portland more easily reach destinations in the Rocky Mountains and beyond.

In 2018, the budget airliner Frontier started offering direct flights from Portland to Denver, Raleigh-Durham and Orlando.

The jetport also had a record more than 2 million passengers in 2018.
