A tractor-trailer loaded with 80,000 pounds of french fries overturned on an on-ramp to the Maine Turnpike on Thursday.
The driver, 74-year-old Robert Skidget of Saco, suffered minor injuries and was not charged, according to Stephen McCausland, spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
The truck, which is owned by AC Moore, was going too fast on a curve as it was attempting to enter the turnpike, McCausland said.
The northbound on-ramp was closed at mile 42 in Scarborough and remained closed for the evening commute, but the turnpike itself was not affected, McCausland said.
There was some leakage from the truck’s fuel tanks, and the Department of Environmental Protection was on the scene, he said.
“It was not immediately known the fate of the fries,” McCausland said.
Earlier this week, a tractor-trailer full of potatoes crashed on the side of Interstate 95.
