Police have identified the homeless woman found dead Saturday under the Veterans Memorial Bridge in Bangor.
Valerie Lombardo, 42, who had no fixed address, apparently was living in an encampment under the Interstate 395 bridge.
Her body was found about 11:09 a.m. Saturday on the ground of the bridge’s lower deck near the edge of the Penobscot River, Sgt. Wade Betters, spokesperson for Bangor police, said Wednesday.
Lombardo died of a suspected drug overdose but the results of toxicology tests to determine the cause of death are pending.
More people have been living in an encampment under the bridge since the Bangor Area Homeless Shelter closed its warming center because of the coronavirus.
Authorities continue to investigate Lombardo’s death.
