ROCKPORT, Maine — Seventeen groups around Maine will benefit from community grants designed to support live theater in the state.

The grants total $76,829 and are from the Maine Theater Fund of the Maine Community Foundation. The grants are going to groups in different corners of the state, ranging from Portland to Somesville on Mount Desert Island.

One of the grants is going to Mayo Street Arts in Portland to renovate a box office and concession area. Another is slated for Everyman Repertory Theatre in Rockport to help it present a season of plays in 2021 that celebrate Maine’s history and arts heritage.

The community foundation said it’ll provide more grants in 2021 and the deadline for applications is Sept. 15.
