YARMOUTH, Massachusetts — Authorities are investigating what’s being called a suspicious fire at a Nativity scene at a Cape Cod church.
Firefighters responding to a 911 call went to the United Methodist Church in Yarmouth about 11 p.m. last Wednesday, according to police.
The fire was already out by the time crews arrived, but some materials were still smoldering, police said.
Firefighters doused the Nativity scene with water and determined the area was safe.
Mostly hay and wood were damaged, and there was no damage to the church.
The cause remains under investigation, but “the fire and the incident is classified as suspicious at this time,” according to police.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
