LEWISTON, Maine — A father who was stabbed by his 11-year-old daughter told police she reported hearing “voices” urging her to kill her family, according to a court affidavit.
The Auburn man is recovering from his wounds after being stabbed in the chest and abdomen on Jan. 13. The girl has been charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault.
According to the affidavit, the father told police that his daughter blindfolded him and told him that she and her mother had a surprise for him, then left the room briefly before returning and stabbing him, the Sun Journal reported. He knocked the knife away and she retrieved another knife before stabbing him a second time.
During a recent intervention for his daughter, before the stabbing, the girl reported that she heard “voices telling her to kill her family,” according to the affidavit.
The father acknowledged he was having difficulty parenting his daughter, and he said he’d slapped her and spanked her.
A judge last week ordered a competency evaluation for the girl and ordered her held at the Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland until her next court appearance in February.
