An Old Town man died in a car crash that hit a utility pole near downtown Old Town on Friday morning. The crash caused hundreds to lose power.
The single-vehicle crash happened just before 10 a.m. on Center Street near the intersection with Fourth Street, said Lee Miller, Old Town’s deputy police chief. When police and firefighters arrived at the scene they tried to save Seth Barden, 41, who appeared to have suffered a medical event that caused the crash, Miller said.
Barden died at the scene despite emergency responders’ efforts, according to Miller.
The power outage affected about 815 Versant customers in the area, the power company said Friday morning.
Center Street remained closed for much of the day as crews worked to reconstruct the scene and Versant worked to repair the knocked-down utility pole.
