A fire in Portland sent five people to the hospital — one with critical injuries — on Saturday.
The fire broke out at the Island View apartments at 117-119 North St. on Munjoy Hill around 3 a.m.
Firefighters evacuated several buildings nearby as a precaution and the roof of the structure collapsed, Deputy Fire Chief Kevin McGuire told the Portland Press Herald.
The building did not have sprinklers, but the firewalls separating the townhouses assisted the firefighters, fire Capt. John Brennan told the paper. Unfortunately, the building is a total loss.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
