CANAAN, Maine — A 59-year-old Canaan woman was killed after being struck by an SUV while she was walking her dog Friday night, according to the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash happened around 5:30 p.m. on Brown’s Corner Road, officials said.

Diane Shea was walking eastbound when she was hit by a 29-year-old driver who was alone in his vehicle and wearing his seatbelt.

Police say the crash wasn’t far from where Shea lived.

So far, the investigation does not show speed, driver inattention or alcohol to be factors.

The driver of the SUV was taken to Redington-Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan, but doesn’t appear to have been injured. The dog was also unharmed.

The crash is still under investigation.
