The state medical examiner has determined that the death of Paula Johnson, 53, of Pembroke has been ruled a homicide.

Washington County sheriff’s deputies found Johnson dead around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at a Leighton Point Road residence when they responded to a call about an unresponsive woman, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said Friday night.

The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit North and the Maine State Police Evidence Response Team were called and the woman’s body was taken to the medical examiner’s office for an autopsy.

The autopsy performed on Thursday determined that Johnson was the victim of a homicide, Moss said.Police seek help from the public. If anyone has information about the death or saw anything on the Leighton Point Road in the last few days that seemed suspicious, call the Maine State Police dispatch in Bangor at 207-973-3700 and leave a message for Detective Adam Bell.
