Emily, a Great Pyrenees and husky mix, will be representing the Pine Tree State in this Sunday's Puppy Bowl.

PORTLAND, Maine — Whether you’re rooting for the Los Angeles Rams or the Cincinnati Bengals on Super Bowl Sunday, Mainers can come together to support one furry friend from the state.

Early Sunday afternoon you can check out Emily who is a Great Pyrenees and husky mix.

She’ll compete with pups from around the country at 2 p.m. Sunday on Discovery and Animal Planet.

The Animal Refuge League said Emily has a knack for carrying toys around, a great skill to have in the Puppy Bowl and it could take her to the endzone. It’ll be a ruff time for any pup who wants to get in Emily’s way.

However, the real “score” is raising awareness about adopting shelter and rescue animals.

“It’s a great celebration of the work we do and of adoption across the country in general,” Jeana Roth of the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland said. “Only shelter dogs and rescue dogs participate, so it’s a great way to shine a spotlight on what we do.”

On Saturday, the Refuge League said it’s taking in more than 60 cats and dogs from a shelter in Miami, which is their biggest “Wings of Rescue” flight yet.
