It is obvious to me that the good of the many does not enter into the picture for Rep. Sherm Hutchins of Penobscot. He is calling Prime Minister Justin Trudeau a “dictator” for protecting the citizens of Canada from the trucker protests that are not only  illegal, but are choking commerce on both sides of the border.

Ottawa residents are being terrorized, workers whose jobs depend on materials crossing the border are having their jobs put on hold and paychecks are not forthcoming. Hutchins seems to forget that those people have rights as well. They should have the right to live in their homes unafraid and the right to continue to work and support their families. I believe Trudeau is supporting those rights.

Sometimes we have to act for others. Unselfish behavior such as wearing masks for the protection of the more vulnerable or at-risk, supporting social distancing and working remotely were actions that those who are truly concerned with the well-being of the world embraced during these uneasy times.

Unfortunately, not everyone supports this thought, as exemplified by the fact that Hutchins protested State House masking rules last spring. Now he is striking out against opening the blockade at the border crossings. Crossings that were finally opened, only to be shut down by illegal actions.
