Two women were taken to an Augusta hospital Friday night after crashing their snowmobile into a pole in Rome.
Amy Madden, 48, of Rome was driving up a steep embankment on a 2016 Ski-Doo Expedition with her friend Monica McCarthy, 56, of Belgrade off Long Pond when the crash occurred, Mark Latti, spokesperson for the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife, told the Morning Sentinal.
Madden failed to drive the snowmobile up a hill as they were trying to move around a camp, causing it to crash into a support post and roll over on its side, Latti told the newspaper.
Madden suffered injuries to her ribs and chest while McCarthy had injuries to her chest and arm, and they were both taken to the Alfond Center for Health in Augusta, Latti said.
Both women were wearing helmets at the time of the crash.
