The driver accused of causing a crash in Oxford County shouldn’t have had a driver’s license and only had one because of a bureaucratic mistake.
Since he was convicted last summer of vehicular manslaughter, Ethan Rioux-Poulios, 26, of Woodstock should have lost his license, but a mistake by the courts and the Bureau of Motor Vehicles allowed him to keep it.
On Friday, he critically injured a woman in a police chase that ended in a wreck.
The BMV said it never got the right paperwork from court, saying in a statement, “This is an instance in which bureaucracy failed, with catastrophic consequences. When people commit such heinous acts, they lose their privilege to drive.”
