A Washington County man died in a single-vehicle crash in Princeton on Saturday morning.

At approximately 5:40 a.m., the Maine State Police responded to a crash on Main Street in Princeton, according to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

Peter Leighton, 59, of Princeton was southbound when he crossed the centerline, veered off the road and struck a tree. He died at the scene of the crash, Moss said.

No one else was in the vehicle or injured in the crash.

While the circumstances of the crash are under investigation, officials believe that Leighton experienced a medical event before the crash.
