A truck hauling hot patch pavement caught fire Monday morning, causing Interstate 295 in Portland to close for hours while crews brought the flames under control.
The truck, traveling from Woburn, Massachusetts, to Bangor, had multiple propane tanks on board that fueled the fire when it broke out about 9:20 a.m., near exit 5.
Northbound and southbound traffic was shut down for about three hours while crews fought the fire.
The exact cause of the fire is unknown, but the truck recently underwent maintenance to the propane heating system. It is possible this system malfunctioned, causing the fire, according to Maine State Police.
No one was injured.
