Police seized more than 3,400 marijuana plants and another 111 pounds of processed marijuana from an illegal grow operation in Carmel last week.

Deputies raided the residence on Route 2 about 8 a.m. Thursday, according to the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office described the operation’s methods and process as “dangerous” to those involved and the surrounding area, but didn’t elaborate.

“This large operation undermines both medical and recreational Maine companies who are professionally licensed and following appropriate standards and requirements in the cultivation, sale, and use of marijuana,” the sheriff’s office said.

The operation, which wasn’t licensed or permitted, was organized by people who live in Maine, and several people from outside Maine were arrested, according to the sheriff’s office, which didn’t immediately identify any of those arrested.

During the raid, police seized more than 3,400 plants and 111 pounds of processed marijuana.

No additional information was immediately available.
